Informatica (Beta)
What is Informatica?
Informatica is a data management company with a variety of products including data catalog, data integration, data quality, master data management etc. Monte Carlo's current integration is focused on its Data Integration tool.
Why connect Informatica to Monte Carlo?
Monte Carlo currently creates lineage from Informatica task flows that take data from point A to point B. Integrating MC with Informatica helps data teams extend their lineage graph, allowing users to identify the sources of data issues upstream as well as assess the impact of failures on downstream assets.
For example, if a table has anomalous data, users can leverage the integration to identify which Informatica task flow updated the table so users can directly troubleshoot that task flow; it also points to which table in upstream database was the source so users can verify the quality of the source table.
Setting up Informatica connection
Go to the Integrations page, under "Orchestration" category, click "Create" to start an Informatica integration.
Fill out the form fields required. A username and a password are needed to authenticate with Informatica’s REST APIs. Also select the agent/data collector you'd like to use for the connection.
Once created, within a day, you should start seeing lineage from your Informatica task flows in Monte Carlo. For more comprehensive info and monitoring of your lineage nodes, be sure to setup integrations for your source and target databases.
Limitations
The current integration has the following limitations:
- lineage is only created from Linear task flows (non-linear task flows are not supported)
- multiple sources within each mapping must be from the same database connection
- only mappings with one target is supported
