EU Regional Hosting

This hosting option is currently in private preview. During the private preview, to view account specific information customers should use the Account Info page.

Monte Carlo’s EU deployment enables customers to monitor and manage data quality within the European Union, aligning with data residency, compliance, and governance requirements such as GDPR.

This deployment maintains the same reliability, observability, and security standards as Monte Carlo’s US environments, while ensuring that customer data monitored through the platform remains within the EU.

Data Classification and Residency

Monte Carlo categorizes all services by how they interact with customer data to determine where they are hosted:

Regional (EU-Hosted)

Services that directly interact with customer-monitored data — including AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, and related processing components.

Non-Regional (US-Hosted)

Services that do not process customer monitored data, such as:

  • Authentication and operational tools (e.g., Okta, Slack)
  • Build and deployment tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Terraform Cloud)

Instrumentation and Observability

Operational telemetry services may collect performance and usage metrics. Monte Carlo evaluates these on a case-by-case basis to determine if regional hosting is required. The below list should be considered examples of determinations, if a full list of regional vs non regional services is required please reach out to [email protected].

Non-Regional

  • DataDog
  • Sentry

Regional

  • Mixpanel

Architecture and Design Principles

Monte Carlo’s hosting model leverages a regionalized architecture designed for logical isolation, resilience, and compliance.

Each EU environment (dedicated or regional) operates as part of the broader Monte Carlo AWS Organization, but with its own dedicated AWS account.

Key Principles

  • Regional isolation: Customer environments are provisioned in EU-based data centers.
  • Centralized governance: All accounts are managed under the Monte Carlo AWS Organization for consistent policy enforcement and monitoring.
  • Scalable design: Monte Carlo supports both single-tenant (dedicated) and regional multi-tenant (shared) instances.

EU-Hosted Infrastructure

Each EU deployment includes a comprehensive suite of AWS services managed directly by Monte Carlo, the below is meant to serve as examples and is not representative of the entire deployment architecture.

Core Infrastructure (AWS)

Example Services

  • Storage: Amazon S3, RDS, DynamoDB (limited Global Tables usage), OpenSearch, Elastic File System
    • Some minimal metadata may be replicated globally via DynamoDB Global Tables, but customer data monitored through Monte Carlo will remain within the EU region.
  • Compute: ECS, Lambda, Airflow, Glue
  • Processing: Kinesis, SQS, SNS
  • Application Layer: API Gateway, AWS Amplify (regional UI hosting)
  • LLMs: AWS Bedrock (availability varies by region)

Additional Third-Parties

  • Azure
  • Snowflake
  • Databricks
  • Neo4j
  • Timescale
  • HashiCorp Vault (HCP)

Shared and Global Services

Certain global services enable a consistent, performant user experience across all regions.

While these services are not used for storing or processing customer-monitored data, they support global login, API routing, and UI delivery.

The below is meant to serve as examples and is not representative of the entire deployment architecture.

Example Services

  • Discovery Service – Routes users to their correct environment (e.g., eu1.getmontecarlo.com)
  • API Routing Service – Provides a single global entry point (api.getmontecarlo.com) for SDK and CLI access
  • Integration Routing – Routes incoming integration webhooks and OAuth requests to the correct tenant
  • CloudFront CDN – Delivers web assets globally, ensuring low latency
  • Snowflake Data Sharing (cross-cloud and cross-region)
  • Some AWS resources where necessary to support regional features
    • For example - with PrivateLink (regional feature) there is a VPC and other resources in non-EU regions that are peered to facilitate this communication

Auxiliary Services

Monte Carlo is an international, remote-first company headquartered in the United States. As such, services used to operate the company and support the product (billing, support, etc...) are typically hosted within the United States. Monte Carlo employees may provide services to the customer and customer environment from non EU regions as needed. If there are specific concerns around these services, please reach out to your Account Representative or [email protected].
