Observability Agents - AI Features & Technical Info

Monte Carlo uses AI to accelerate data quality operations across your data stack. While the core Monte Carlo Product is Machine Learning based, we additionally offer Large Language Model (LLM) powered features known as Observability Agents. Observability Agents help you identify issues faster, understand root causes more effectively, and improve monitoring coverage—all working on top of the observability data Monte Carlo already collects.

Observability Agents are designed to augment your team's capabilities, not replace human judgment. They provide intelligent recommendations and analysis that data engineers and analysts can review, refine, and act upon.

Capabilities

Monte Carlo's Observability Agents enhance key workflows across the data observability lifecycle with:

Intelligent Monitoring Recommendations

Monte Carlo can analyze your data warehouse metadata, query patterns, and sample data to recommend custom monitors that improve coverage and catch issues earlier.

Automated Root Cause Analysis

When alerts are triggered, Monte Carlo can investigate potential causes—analyzing data changes, system failures, code updates, and lineage—to surface the most likely root causes and accelerate time-to-resolution.

Conversational Interaction

Users can interact with Monte Carlo's Observability Agents through natural language, asking follow-up questions and receiving context-aware responses as investigations progress.

How AI Works With Your Data

Monte Carlo's Observability Agents don't require new data collection or different warehouse access. They work on top of the data that Monte Carlo already gathers for observability and monitoring.

Key principles:

  • No new data collection: Monte Carlo uses existing observability data from your connected warehouses and tools
  • Feature-specific design: Each Observability Agent is built with intentional data handling based on what it needs to deliver value
  • Customer control: Observability Agents are available out-of-the-box; customers can disable them if desired

Enabling & Disabling Observability Agents

All features are enabled by default for all Monte Carlo customers. You have control over their use by disabling specific or all Observability Agents.

When data sampling is disabled, features that depend on sample data become unavailable, while metadata-only features continue working.

Data Privacy & Security

All Observability Agents follow Monte Carlo's standard security practices with additional AI-specific protections.
