Private preview

Composable dashboards and the metrics API are in private preview: available to invited accounts, and features may change. See Integration and feature lifecycles for what this means, and reach out to your account representative to request access.

Overview

Who used Monte Carlo, when and how much (visits, page views, distinct pages, API calls) per day, week or month and per user, as the in-product Activity dashboard shows it.

What it answers

  • How many users the account has and how many were active or inactive in a period.
  • Visits, page views and API calls per day, week or month.
  • The most active users.
🚧

Not covered here

  • Activity per team (there is no user to team mapping).
  • Monitors created (Coverage metrics).
  • Alert status changes per user (Data quality metrics).

Try asking

Who were the most active users in the last 30 days?

The query your agent runs:

  • Metrics: user_page_view_count, user_api_call_count
  • Grouped by: user__user_email
  • Filter: metric_time__day on or after 30 days ago
  • Sorted by: user_page_view_count, highest first
Request (JSON)
{
  "metrics": ["user_page_view_count", "user_api_call_count"],
  "group_by": ["user__user_email"],
  "filters": [
    {
      "field": "metric_time__day",
      "op": "gte",
      "values": ["<30 days ago>"]
    }
  ],
  "order_by": [
    {"field": "user_page_view_count", "descending": true}
  ]
}

Metrics

Every metric here groups by User, and time.

MetricWhat it counts
active_user_countPeople counted in user_count with any activity (app or API) in the selection.
inactive_user_countLive people of the account (user_count) without any activity in the selected period; without a period, never active in the history window.
user_api_call_countAPI calls made by the users.
user_app_view_countDistinct pages viewed in the app; API calls excluded.
user_countPeople with a user in the account, active or not; deleted users are not counted.
user_page_view_countPage views in the app; API calls excluded.
user_visit_countDistinct users with any activity (app or API) in the selection, as the Activity dashboard counts visits; users deleted since and agent service users are included, which the product leaves out. For the people counted in user_count, use active_user_count.

Good to know

Grouping and filtering for all metrics, including why the numbers per domain, data product or tag do not add up to the account's: Before you group or filter.

  • Default window: The last 30 days.
  • History: 13 full calendar months back from the current month; nothing older is kept.
  • Time grain: Group by metric_time at day, week or month. user_visit_count and user_app_view_count are distinct counts: ask them at the grain you need instead of adding up daily values.
  • Per user: Group by user__user_email; per-user rows are for Account Owners only (the API enforces it).
  • Users: User_count is the live people of the account, active or not; active_user_count those of them with activity in the selected period, inactive_user_count those without (without a period, never active in the history window), so active + inactive = user_count. user_visit_count is the Activity dashboard's visits and also counts users deleted since and agent service users.
